First of all, thank you all so so so much for all the compliments on my Terra! I really busted my ass on this costume and I'm very content that it shows. I've typed up my ass-long description of the costume under the cut!

Sooo AUSA came and went. I just went down for Saturday to visit folks and debut my new Amano Terra! It got a great reception and I am just soooo happy how it turned out! I worked on it for almost three months, which is longer than any other costume I have made so far. I will make a post under a cut sometime later once I have some photos for those interested in the construction behind it. I had a really great time and was glad to see the folks that I did! Sorry I could not chillax much!

I am just so excited that I get to go home on Tuesday. I have not been home since late September and it feels strange having not seen my family for so long. Ugh I have been dying for some sweet tea and Southern hospitality. I also am happy that I get to see my home buddies Ross and Nathan.

I also went to the Museum of Modern Art on Thursday morning and absolutely LOVED it!! (I am an Art History minor, for those who do not know!) I had never been and had an essay to write about the Bauhaus exhibit there. I also got to see the Monet water lillies and almost died at the fact that Demoiselles D'Avignon by Picasso is at the MoMA! It is one of my most favourite works! Also, they are currently setting up a big Tim Burton exhibit in the MoMA that runs until April, I think. So.. anyone who likes Tim Burton may want to check it out!

Ugh, back to the reality that I have a history paper due on Tuesday.. D: Hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving!

Okay so I'm back from Disney. And Haiti. And next week is Otakon. And the week after is the US Virgin Islands.

Oh my god why can't I have a day to just... lay around and do NOTHING? I'm so lucky to do so many things but goodness! I'm so burnt out! I will upload all of my Haiti and Disney photos hopefully tomorrow so everyone can see them! I've had a lot of people ask about Haiti especially!

So...Otakon. I'm bringing three, maybe four costumes. (If Kate and I finish our hilarious bullshit costumes.) Otherwise, it's just the three. Two of them are Asuka. One is ridiculous. And one is, well, a very entertaining choice.

Also I thought I'd write a little bit about the Carolina serial killer. As most of you know, I'm from South Carolina. More specifically, I am from the Upstate. Gaffney, SC is in the upstate. In fact, my MOTHER works in downtown Gaffney. The furniture store where this man shot up two of the victims is one block from my mother's office. I have NEVER felt more sick than when I had to leave for Florida with that man on the loose knowing that my mother was still going to go to work. All these people were killed along Highway 11, a road that I drive on relatively regularly. My grandmother takes it to work. My dad takes it to court when he has court in Gaffney. Mom takes it every day.

When I got to Florida and told my Uncle Clifford about the serial killer, he hadn't heard anything about it. WHAAAAAT. This is fucking annoying. I love Michael Jackson, but why couldn't the news broadcast that,"HEY GUYS THERE'S A SERIAL KILLER ON THE LOOSE IN SOME STATE SOMEWHERE." I didn't see anything on CNN until he was DEAD. And even then it was a ticker at the bottom of the screen. Pathetic. Yes, it's very sad Michael Jackson died. I loved his music. But when the media chooses to potentially jeopardize MORE people's lives by not even broadcasting such a terrifying subject as a RAMPANT SERIAL KILLER in favor of covering what Jackson's sister we have never heard of thinks about his death, that's not okay. Maybe if they had put the sketch on the TV more, less people would have died. I go fabric shopping in Gastonia, NC. That's where he was shot. And the only reason the Gaston county police even found him is because a lady thought someone was stealing from an abandoned house that was next to hers. I'm just so disgusted. We'd know if fucking Miley Cyrus had a COLD but half the country doesn't even know about the killings in Gaffney. And I'm sure NO ONE but locals knows of the panic that it caused here. Blah. Anyways.

...I had a great time at Disney, though!

So today is the fourth of July. Today is the celebrated day of our nation's independence. We all are very blessed to live in this nation. Going to Haiti really... opened my eyes to that. These people don't have electricity, running water, barely a roof other their heads, if any, and are so desperately poor that their children go days at a time without eating. We were in a compound that was lucky enough to have electricity for about half the day each day and we had two meals a day, which was far more than anyone else in Croix au Bouquets had in an evening. The kids in the neighborhood would often come knock on the metal gate to our compound asking for work in exchange for food. They would work ALL day for a few packs of crackers or cookies. In addition to that, there is little to no health care in Haiti. The hospital in Port-au-Prince is terrible. (We were shown around by two Haitian doctors.) There was blood on the floor, people standing outside holding their own IVs, the rank smell of urine everywhere... It was just SO awful.

So I guess the point of this post is to say, for all the flaws that the US has, be SO GLAD you live here and don't ever forget how many blessings you have and may take for granted that other people can only dream of.

Okay so Otakon is...soon. I'm not going to think about just how soon it is because I don't want to remember that. I thought I'd post up what I'm making for the con for both my own sake as well as those who are curious!

Otakon 2009:
Black Pointy Thing with red lights - Secret(I've told a few people about this!)
Plug Suit Asuka - Neon Genesis Evangelion
Festival Asuka - Neon Genesis Evangelion
Deedlit - Record of Lodoss War
Manga Duelist Utena - Revolutionary Girl Utena[This is already done.]

The first two are my large priorities for the con The others are only after I get the first two finished. I'm putting off Rosa AGAIN because I want to do the plug suit instead. My red hair is putting me on an Asuka kick. >_>

Heading up to Chimney Rock, NC this weekend. Rented a cute little cabin up in the mountains for the visit. I'm looking forward to the zen weekend! Life has been too chaotic lately.

Fanime was AWESOME. So glad I skipped AB for it. (I missed my homies at AB and AZ, though!) I got some awesome pictures and generally just had a great time chilling out and meeting some new folks and seeing some old folks! Definitely will be back next year!

I'm sorry, I fail at posting!! Sooo I spent the last few days harassing Kate(I'm sorry I missed my other Pittsburgh people!!! It was spur of the moment!) and forcing her to watch the worst best movie ever made. "WITH THE PASSION OF TENNESSEE WILLIAMS." Ohhhhh my god. I am not going to reveal the name of the film because we were throwing around the idea of a viewing party but... yes! Soooo funny.

I also have seen Stark Trek twice. Although, once was on Imax and that is just an ENTIRELY different experience. I took my parents and my little sister in my sorority to see it after we got some AMAZING Indian food. I thought it was absolutely awesome. Chekov was ADORABLE. The actor who played him was just awesome. While I never much watched the Original Star Trek(NEXT GENERATION HOLLA.) I really enjoyed the film.

I leave Friday for Fanime! I am soooo excited about going! I'm bringing Sundress Asuka, Manga Utena, and Festival Asuka at this point. I might being one older costume as well. It's going to be very leisurely.

I also saw the trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes and will be interested to see it! Sure, it's no Rathbone, but I think it will still be a fun watch! I HIGHLY suggest people check out the old Holmes films with Basil Rathbone, as he's just.. so incredible. Well... anything with Rathbone. He's particularly awesome with Erroll Flynn. Aahhh watching them fight is just such a joy. They're AMAZING, particularly Rathbone! ANYWAYS. Stage combat fan-gasm there.

Anyways...yes! That's all.

So I just rewatched the last episode of Battlestar Galactica because I felt the urge to do so. How sad is it that I was one of the few who didn't cry at the finale when it was airing but now when I rewatch it I get all torn up because I know it's over. It kills me how much the internet hated the ending. I loved it. ALL of it.

AAAAHHHH BATTLESTAR WHY ARE YOU OVER? Caprica isn't the same. The Plan is just one movie. :< It's been a very long time since I have had SUCH a vested interest in a show. And I have NEVER had such an immediate attachment to a singular character. T_T I uploaded like 15 new BSG icons because, well, at least there are new icons made? I really want one of Chief doing that...thing he did in the last episode where he had that awesome,"I HATE YOU SO MUUUUCCHHHH" face.

T________________________T

...Ahem. Anyways. Sakura Matsuri this weekend! And the Kappa Sigma Alpha formal the day before. Ohhh boy. I am wearing sundress Asuka from Eva so I should be pretty easy to spot. :3

Oh holy Jesus I have been sooooo busy lately. I'm so excited for the summer to have some time to kick back and just.. relax. It gets really tiring just running from one thing to the next. This past weekend I drove out to Pittsburgh to visit [info]katetriss, [info]final_memories, [info]moonlessgarden, [info]bobbarker, [info]amazonmandy, and [info]themattyshow. It was so nice seeing everyone and catching up and just having a generally lovely weekend. I drove back this morning to NY to finish my paper and have my sorority meeting tonight. Much to my frustration, there was absurd traffic in Bumble Fuck Nowhere, PA and I got back a lot later than I really wanted to and missed seeing Rob and Mike. D:

Sooo I have two papers due in the next two days and I'm grabbing lunch at Tick Tock Diner tomorrow with [info]lousyitachi before he leave agaaaiiin! Bah! Then I have a chapter meeting on Wednesday and the Kappa Sigma Alpha fraternity's formal Friday night then the Sakura Matsuri on Saturday. AAHHHHHHHHHH. Anyways..! It should be a very busy week.

OH! I suppose I should mention this now since people keep asking about it. I am NOT going to Anime Boston! Last year sucked balls and instead I am going to Fanime! HOLLA. I'm really excited about going to Fanime because I've heard nothing but good things about the con!

Aannnd.. I think that's all. Whew!

So my dad sent me a link tonight. Usually I ignore them or whatever but this one is truly remarkable. I don't know if any of the rest of you have seen it yet, but you all really must! (Particularly if you like show tunes!)

It won't let me embed the clip but it's here:

Her name is Susan Boyle. She's a 47-year-old, unmarried, unemployed Scottish woman who looks particularly frumpy. Most of the crowd rolled their eyes when she came out to sing for "Britain's Got Talent." And then she blew them away. She had an incredible voice and silenced even cynical old Simon. I'm just so happy for this lady. People judge on appearances far too often in this day and age and she humbled pretty much everyone.

I'm going to be rooting for her every step of the way this season. "Hollywood" needs more people like Susan Boyle.
